Rusty sleeps in the crate right by my bed. He usually sleeps around 2am for some reason. But he'll hold in his peeing/pooing till around 8am which is great. When I hear his id tag shaking, he usually clings on the crate door as well to tell me, "Hey Dad, I gotta go... like now please!"

He doesn't whine or cry when I put him in the crate. What I usually do is let him sleep on the couch for a little, maybe 10-15 mins into his sleep and then carry him into my room and into the crate which has a plushy bed in it. He usually is sooo tired that he won't be able to stand up and fall back to sleep. It has always worked for me so you can try that.
