I would definitely suggest finding a local breeder or one that is at least within driving distance. When I went to pick out my baby, I already had an idea of what I wanted. I found the pup that fit my "profile".......and Rocky found me! Rocky was not exactly what I was looking for, but I was what HE was looking for! And in just a few seconds, I fell in love with him! The pup that was my first choice quickly fell to last place once I met Rocky! Rocky was so sweet and loving! He wanted to be held, but didn't whine when I put him down. Instead, he sat patiently by me while I took the other babies for a "test drive". When I had checked all of them out, (we had the pick of the litter) he looked up at me and his eyes said, "Mom, can we go home now?" Needless to say, I scooped him up and knew that he was my baby. Then I had to wait for what seemed like years for him to be old enough to come home. The moral of the story is: We think we can pick out our baby, but they can pick us, too! Rocky picked ME! I am the lucky one! That is why I think it is better to have a local breeder. Whichever you choose, I wish you the best of luck! Your baby will bring you tons of joy!
