Shipping is not inherently bad. I had my last puppy shipped to me in California from Texas and she did great. The breeders make sure they ride in the cabin, not cargo and they put them on a direct flight and they wait until they are at least 12 weeks for a typical size yorkie and 16 weeks or 2 lbs for a smaller yorkie.
Go to Breeders.net and type in your zip code as a starting point. There are some great breeders here on Yorkie Talk and they can probably give you their contact info. You can also go to puppyfind.net but you need to be careful and ask the right questions.
Ask to see pictures of the mother and the father and the pedigres even if you are not intending to breed or show. Ask to speak to their vet. Ask if the parents have any genetic defects or other health issues. They should not let the puppy go until 12 weeks to insure proper socialization. Ask about their health guarantee. 1 year against genetic defects is good, 2 is better.
I would use a "puppy escrow" service if you do not intend to go pick the puppy up yourself. I would recommend against sending money any other way. There are a lot of scam artists out there and it is easy to be taken advantage of on both sides.
That will get you started and others will mention things that I didn't. Ask us a lot of questions. We all learn from everyone's answers. |
