Not having an ER vet available 24 hours is very frustrating. I also live where you have to call and leave a message, and if the vet is out on a cow or horse call, it can be a while. Plus, when I've called after hours, I've felt pressured to "wait til morning" (Well, you could bring him in if you think it's necessary, but the fee is 250.00, and your left kidney....). I finally located an emergency vet that is staffed 24 hours a day. It is 3 hours away, but at least I know I have options if I can't reach my vet after hours.
I am so sorry you and Mickey had to suffer through that terrible night. Your vet's office should have had a machine answering, instructing you to leave a message or something. I could just cry thinking about how that must have hurt him and you!
So glad he's better. Hope he recovers completely and has no more stones.
