I leave my house @ 830, and am home by about 5:15. I have a 17 week old puppy. I have him in an ex-Pen with his wee-wee pad, food, water, bed, and plenty of toys. I think he sleeps all day. He is happy to see me when I get home, and I spent all night with him. If I go anywhere after work, he comes with me. He is not destructive at all. I am however going to get him a little sister to keep him company while I am gone :-)
