You are so right! I suggest getting an empty aluminum soda can and placing some change in it (pennies, nickels...) and taping it closed. When the puppy does this again, be sure and have the can ready and shake it vigorously while speaking in a firm tone and say "No!". It will scare the bajeebers out of him and after a few times of this, the nipping should stop.
