Welcome to you and your baby(Does it have a name)...You'll get a ton of advice here, some will work for you and of course some will not. When we got Winston(3 years ago) we got a crate, I think it was a ferrett cage, he loved it...he could see out, but was still confined, we took the top off so we could easily reach in and give him attention and to pick him up. Bought a vinyl pad to put in the bottom and covered it with a blankie, a few chew type toys, food and water. Maybe I was just lucky, but he never had an accident in or out of this cage, he went outside only...peepads never worked for my 1st Yorkie, so I didn't even bother trying with my 2nd. The minute I brought him home, he went straight outside first, when he finally peed, we really praised him...and only then did we take him in the house. He knew from the very beginning where he was suppose to pee and loved all the attention he got when he'd pee outside. We moved the cage from room to room, the bedroom at night, the kitchen during the day(we both work) and the living room when we got home at night. You can't give them too much freedom at first, they'll learn...and earn their freedom, and you'll be glad they did. Eventually, he was able to be out of the cage more and more, and we could trust that he wouldn't go potty in the house, he now sleeps in bed with us, no problems, when he needs to go outside he just jumps off the bed and scatches on my side of the bed to wake me. I know it sounds amazing how easy he was to train, I was expecting the worse and got the best. Hope you can do the same...good luck!
