I e-mailed the company asking about specific signs & symptoms, their vet got back to me:

"All the retainer samples have tested negative for melamine.

The signs are referable to the kidneys. The dog's tend to vomit right away after eating the food. They may have increased water intake. The crystals are seen in the urine if a urinalysis is performed.
