I FINALLY got to talk to the vet- after frustratingly playing phone tag over the long weekend. Alexis' bloodwork came back and her electrolytes were normal!!! I still haven't been able to get a urine sample. You'll have to picture the story I'm about to tell, lol. All day Thursday I followed my very-well-potty-trained girl around the back yard with the tray that the vet supplied to collect her sample. Every time the poor girl squatted, I whipped that tray out. She IMMEDIATELY stopped! The tray was too wide! In I go on the hunt for another tool. The next day (after letting her pee without even looking at her-the poor girl!), I tried to use a margarine lid. Again, too wide. It scared the heck out of her and she would stop. Another search of the house turned up a cardboard lid from a velvet bracelet box. A lot more narrow than the tray and a little more narrow than the margarine lid. Same story. Stopped mid-pee. I came back in from the sub-zero weather, on the hunt again. This time I decided to use a plastic pop bottle lid. Well, the little darling squats close to the ground and I couldn't even get my hand in there! I am now the queen of hunting for small, short objects (cleaned out my cupboards in my searches!). This time I turned up a film container lid. Haven't had the chance to try it as I just got home from work. I talked to the receptionist at the vet's when I was at work today and explained my dilemma. She suggested putting down Saran Wrap! Can you imagine how much Saran Wrap it would take to cover my 55' backyard? "Do they sell it in wider widths?", I asked. She chuckled. I've been having dreams of giving him my OWN sample just to get it over with! Am I alone? How do YOU get your little girl to pee into a foreign object (assuming that she's an outside trained dog?)
I have a few more funnies to share, but know that this post is long enough.
