We do our socialization training by using a positive reinforcement and exposing our dogs to varied situations. Try keeping treats(like cheerios) in your pocket when you take him out to meet people, and while you hold him(for comfort) let the 'strangers' offer the treat. You want him to develop a positive association with 'strangers', instead of a fearful one. Fear fosters aggression. Try to ignore him when he growls and immmediately praise him when he doesn't.
Puppy class could work very well to help him learn canine social skills from the other pups. |
