We had Rexy neutered at 6 months and he was a squater at that time - sometimes, he would squat and lift his leg slightly. Now, at 16 months, he very occasionally lifts his leg and pees on something, but usually he squats and lifts his leg only slightly. He usually does not pee on things, he just squats where ever he is - and he does not mark (pee little squirts on things). When he goes, where ever he is, he empties his bladder completely.
