First of all, ticks have nothing to do with dirty animals or house. Ticks basically are blood sucking nasty, ugly things that like to travel on deer etc. Even if your dog is on the move it only takes a second for a tick to attach itself. A tick can be in the grass, on a tree or plant, or falling from a tree. They can sense the warmth of blood. The best thing is preventive measures such as Frontline or the like. They are scary and disgusting. I've had them on me before (from camping) and I freak out every time. I've also had one on my Golden and it was engorged with blood like the size of a grape, I almost passed out..just another part of life...ewwww..
