But to answer your question...Petsmart does carry products that you can spray on your furniture to keep pets off (they don't like the smell of it), so if I were you I would try some of that and just spray it on the rug. Now I have only bought this for a cat (and by the way it DID work for him), but I'm sure they have something for dogs too - or possibly one product that works for both.
