I use a mixture of grooming brushes ...

I find a slicker brush is great but has to be used with care (don't wanna scratch my babes) - I find this is great for taking out mats as long as your gentle. I usually put my fingers at the root of the hair and use a slicker on the ends. You have to be very careful not to tug too hard as it will snap the hair and I recommend going for the smallest one you can find.

I use a metal comb for around the face, again very slowly and gently as not to pull the skin

I use a flea comb around the eyes to get out the gunk (only after I've used the metal comb)

If I've used a product like Cowboy Magic I can get away with just using a soft brush for every day body grooming, with perhaps attention paid to the difficult areas (bottom and under arms for my pups) with the slicker / comb.

Heh not much use am I .... I advise a selection of them all
