Great on researching!!! Yay!
Fleas and ticks are everywhere! Fleas are said to occasionally move thru areas and plus, you can get them from dogs at the dog park, pet stores, friends house, etc.
We once had a pet that stayed at the vets all day and came back w/ fleas! Never had fleas before and came home covered...you talk about being upset!
There are several "natural" ways to help w/ fleas and ticks.....several oils that you can add to shampoos. Do a research on that too....alot safer and less expensive.
There are topicals and sprays that can be used for fleas and ticks that you can get from your vet or pet supply catalogs/sites. Everyone has their own opinions on which works better.
There are many worms out there too. A simple test can determine if your pet has any and simple meds can get rid of them. There are two preventative meds (heartguard and interceptor)....your vet might carry one or both. The heartguard is a chewable flavored treat (I think I read on here that it can be cut in half for those under 5lbs)......interceptor is a small pill that you hide in food/treat, etc. Each vet is different about which one is better and which one they carry.
