Personally, I feel that 8 hours is a long time to leave a 7 month yorkie by himself. They're a pretty needy breed so I can see why he runs outside when you open the door and he probably jumps on you because he's excited to see you. A good thing to do when puppies are alone is to give them toys, and switch different toys around each day. Also, a radio or TV on might give him a feeling of more people in the house. Would you consider allowing him to roam around the rest of your house? Archie spends a lot of time looking out the window nowadays at other dogs and cars, so if you live in a city or a busy suburb, it might give your yorkie things to look at outside, and a feeling that he's outside. Or, if you can afford to do this---try getting a dog walker or someone to come over in the middle of the day to take him out, like a neighborhood kid. Truth is, he's a puppy and needs to be socialized properly at this age before it's too late.
