What age were they when they went into their first heat?

I am trying to geuss around how much time I may have before I have to get Willow spayed, she is still under 2 lbs at 5 months, it freaks me out. I'd like to wait as long as possible (for safety and teeth purposes), but do not want her to go into heat.

My vet says she will have her first heat at 6 months, but I know there can be a range depending on the dog. Just want to hear some of your experiences......
