It does take some getting used to...it will just take time, hand in there.
Within the first few days of life, the nerves in the tail, ears, feet, etc are not at their full functioning capacity--sensation and feeling in those areas in newborn pups is not equivalent to what older dogs feel. This is why docking, dew claws, ear cropping procedures are done at a young age. When performed properly, the pups show very little discomfort. Again,
when done properly. My personal opinion is that this would be a much better option than allowing a band to slowly, over days time (when nerves are becoming more rapid) cut off circulation, cut through flesh and not to mention allow an open wound to remain open for infection for days and days, not to mention increased scarring. But again, that is just my take on it.
I realize some view it as cruel, some are under the impression that they pups are being tortured, and everyone is entitled to their own opinion and unfortunately it is something that everyone just is NOT going to agree on. You just kind of have to find your own stance on the situation over time and roll with it.
