I personally think the decision should be based on your kids - not necessarily the type of dog. My kids are 8 and 4 and they all get along well - but it does take work on my part, insuring they are respectful to the puppy and the puppy is respectful of them. On the other hand, my niece and nephew are better suited for a bigger, sturdier dog if you know what I mean. Good luck with your decision.
