I had this problem and was totally grossed out as well. I guess it is part of natural canine behavior to eat their own poo. It gets to be a problem if they try to eat other dogs since they could have worms.
Anyway, I used the deter for a few weeks. I just put a pill in with her food and she gobbled it up twice a day. Knock wood, she hasn't eaten any in a few days.
