You need to start by mentioning what your pet eats. It could be the diet......they shouldn't eat anything with "beet-pulp" or strong colors/preservative/additives etc.
Secondly, are there any short hairs that might be poking the eye?
Lastly, you could use a scented and dye-free baby wipe and dissolve the goo. Then with a flea comb-take it out
Do this daily to keep up with the stains
