Thank you your concern, V, you're such a sweet person.
He's doing a lot better today. His thumb is still swollen, but not nearly as big. Very red though, you can definitely see where the fangs got him. He keeps it wrapped up, but I have to clean it every 3-4 hours. I know it really hurts. . .he insists on having the TV on and won't look at what I'm doing. Also he gets really pale and clenches his teeth. I feel so bad; they have him on an antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, and a mild pain killer. Whenever he's gotten things done, including surgery, he's very rarely taken his pain medication, but he's counting down the time between when he's allowed another pill.
We had his 1st appt. with Dr. McCaffey (our family physician). After lecturing Donald he was very optimistic. Donald is able to bend the thumb more, and rotation is easy. Dr. McCaffey said that he thinks the main thing impeding movement is the swelling and of course the pain. And actually the pain concerned him more than the swelling. He changed out the pain meds and anti-inflammatory, but said to keep going with the antibiotic. He also gave me some samples for a antibiotic cream that's similar to neosporin but that's specifically for human and animal bites.
We go back on Friday, and Dr. said we should see a big difference in the swelling. He said the pain would lessen, but it might be a week or so before it's gone. Dr. McCaffey said that ironically the more pain, the better because injured nerves can heal, but dead numb nerves did not. But he liked the movement Donald was able to achieve, even though it caused him agony.
I wanted to take a picture of his hand; the fang marks are very red and angry looking with this funny white ring around them. But Donald got a little annoyed with me, and said he wasn't a science project to show my friends. Lol, I think he's very embarrassed about the whole thing. Also he can't work until next Monday at the earliest. Dr. McCaffey was very firm on this, and I think he's already starting to have work withdrawal (he's a work-a-holic, if I haven't mentioned before.)
Kinda ruined our plans for the weekend, too, I was planning on going to a my first Dog Show in Grove, OK. (not showing, just watching, and wanted to meet a very nice lady I met on here.) I booked a cabin to stay over on Saturday and everything. I just got off the phone with them to cancel. Oh well, we've had some movies just sitting there from blockbuster.com that we'll be able to watch, and with the exchange at the store option, I'll be able to trade them out without waiting for the mail. Also today the kids come home after school, so it'll be nice to have 'Daddy' around. Normally by the time he gets home they are in bed.
Okay, done with the dissertation, sorry; I guess when I get started I can't stop, lol.
Thank you everyone for your concern and support. I'll keep you posted, but things are looking good so far. . . I really still want to post a picture of his hand, lol. Maybe next time his drugged up he'll let me.
