Since I had to get on a waiting list to get Sadie, it never occurred to me to ask for a discounted price and I am sure she would have either laughed at me or been offended. With Ben, my husband and I just fell in love at first sight and my husband (literally) handed his wallet to the lady as he picked him up. LOL -- It was pretty funny! Especially since the first time I broached the subject of Yorkies, he wanted nothing to do with yappy little dogs. You should see him now!

I would say if it is someone advertising in the paper or on a bulletin board, sure ask to see if they would consider a little less, if you want. But if this is someone you had to get referred to, someone who is doing all the right things in their breeding program, someone that has screened you, has a waiting list -- then no -- just pay what they are asking and thank your lucky stars you found a responsible professional breeder! JMHO

BTW -- for the breeders who say "yes, make an offer" -- I would reconsider. I would not necessarily be offended by offers, because few realize the expense and dedication that goes into breeding these little ones. But, coming down a hundred or two on a puppy sends a bad message. You have just demeaned the value of the puppy and made him little more than garage sale merchandise. $100 of $200 is really not going to make or break a deal. Most all of the people that are looking, already knew the price and STILL came to look. If you have a good breeding program, come up with a fair price and stick to it. Again, JMHO.
