First let me thank you for adopting a senior yorkie. It sounds like you and
your partner have loving and kind hearts.
Second it would be my guess that your new pet is afraid of YOU!
It may have been a woman who mistreated the poor pup.
I would work on getting his trust back. Give him little treats as you
pass him by and say calming things to him like, good boy or mommy loves
you. Don't force yourself on him just take it one day at a time. I bet
after a week or so he will see you differently. Don't raise you voice to
him even in repremanding him. Be gentle and kind and talk in a soft voice.
You can repremand in that way as well. He needs to feel that he can
trust you before he puts her guard down.
Good luck I am sure it will all come together giving time and patience.
