My chihuahua Chico has been doing that since he was a puppy. He is now 13 years old. The vet told me it was "backwards sneezing", which sounded like a copout to me. That sounds so easy. He said because smaller dogs are closer to the floor, all the dust that gets kicked up from the floor and ground goes in their eyes and noses, then into the throat. That is why their eyes run, and they do this "backwards sneezing". He has been doing it since he was about 2 years old, and he is 13 now. He hasn't had any major health issues, except for the past 4 years he has been taking mild seizures, but I dont think that they are connected, but who knows. It scares me a lot when he has them. I am so afraid to lose him. Besides that, his "bw sneezes" are very loud, and last for quite awhile, but nothing really bad. We give him some water, rub his throat, and he is usually fine. Don't know if that will help to ease anybodys thoughts, or help them out. I also think if you think it could be something else and you are still worried... MOTHERS INSTINCTS ARE USUALLY RIGHT! Sometimes we can worry a lot, but there is no such thing as over worrying when it comes to your baby! Take them to the vet if youre not sure. Thats what I'd say.
