I don't mind if Summerlin barks, really I don't, because that is her only way of communicating, so I know this question sounds crazy. How can I teach her when it is appropriate to bark? I have never tried to make her be quiet in the past, because generally she only barks at things that she has never seen before. After she has seen them a few times, she won't bark at it anymore. But when we are in public, I was under the impression that dogs had to be well behaved, and I thought that included not barking excessively. She doesn't bark constantly, just for a few minutes when she sees something new, so how do I curb this? I don't want her to think that she is never allowed to bark, because if I did that I would never hear that lovely yodeling sound she does....

any advice? Thanks!
