I trim ONLY the top third of the ear - inside and out - The long hair I leave alone is connected to their head mostly and the tips of the ear is shaved for a cleaner look....I looked and read LOTS of articles back when I first got Chanel and this is the normal way to groom the ears...I think you could just trim his little ears at the tip and he should be fine...
