My vet mentioned Atopica for severe allergies. He said Sophie's is not that severe so he just gave her the Hydroxyzine. He said she could take it long term if needed but hers are only seasonal. Maybe you could ask your vet about different types of meds. besides the steroids. That is what I did. He was going to give her a steroid shot and I asked for some type of medicine she could take that would last longer. Hope this helps.
