Winston barks alot when he's looking out the window, or in his own backyard. When out in public he never barks at all. I think it's a territorial thing. The best thing I have found to control this is with sound, to distract him. Something like a clicker, or shaking a can with coins in it, maybe even clapping your hands or making a noise. Don't know if it will help, but I do think the longer you let them bark, the harder it will be to stop it. Good luck! Oh, and my husband says he "Woofs" when he really means it, like telling us he has to go outside...NOW...
