I cannot even fathom why anyone would have any doubt what-so-ever about feeding "real" food!! After all it's REAL, and not made of diseased animals in a big boiling vat. My Vet. is a specialist who has been in business many years and has clients come to him from all over CA. ALL the local vets. in surrounding towns send their patients to him when special health or surgery procidures are needed. He knows what I feed my dogs and all the fosters I use to have off and on for years, and he will be the first to say "it doesn't get any better than that". He doesn't push dog food or yearly vaccinations.
There are too many health and recipe books on the market written by holistic Vets. not to know real and all natural is the best avenue. Just do your research.
