The nice thing about getting everything in writing is that if it becomes necessary one can go to court to enforce the contract. Without that peice of paper it's just hearsay and very hard to enforce. With some people integrity seems to come and go and the internet has made everyone more vulnerable. It's so very convenient to purchase a dog on line and have it shipped to you, especially if you live somewhere that is rather isolated. It also makes it easier to be taken. When buying a dog sight unseen you must beware. You are right in that AKC registration only says that the evidence indicates that the dog is purebred. It does not indicate that it even looks like the breed that it is supposed to be or is healthy or of good temperment. The breeder that you purchase your dog from should be considered your breeder for that dogs life but not everyone does business that way.
