No excuses. You've gotta play with the software!
I learned almost all the tricks I know from Passionfruition. She taught me how to work in layers, where you copy and paste one picture over the top of another and then use the eraser tool to erase the parts of the top picture that you don't want in there. Here's one of her threads.
