My aussies do stuff like that. They absolutely understand everything I say. Especially my baby boy, Cirrus. I'll say, "Cirrus, go wait at the front door while I get your leash." And he'll do it. I'll say, "Cirrus, you can't be on the coush when you're dirty"...and he'll go to the bathroom for a bath! The minute he's done with his bath...he'll hop on the couch and smile at me. Weird!
