the paws and the ears may or may not be associated together. Dogs can lick their paws because of allergies, but they can also do it out of habit, or they can be obsessive compulsive. But since you mentioned his ears are itchy too, i'm thinking its more allergy related. I'd take him to the vet this week and get them both checked out. he could have a simple ear infection or if its really smelly its more likely a yeast infection.
