they were trying to diagnose the cough. In talking to the emergency care vet she said that he had definately died from kennelcough (bordetella sp?) pnuemonia and my understanding is that comes from the bacteria that causes kennelcough traveling to the lungs. It seems logical to me that if a puppy had the bacteria for kennelcough living in his throat shoving a tube through his throat and therefore the bacteria and then that same tube going to his lungs would be pushing parts of the kennelcough bacteria into the lungs.This along with the fact that it is common for a small amount of the saline water they used to flush to be left behind during the wash would cause a greater chance of the pnuemonia beginnning. Can anyone tell me if this is right from a veterinarian point of view?? |
