I guess you're "not supposed to" with a show pup, but otherwise I think letting them do whatever it is ears do naturally is just fine. =) With some breeds, according to breed standards they're "not supposed to" have a tail and they get it chopped off!
I never understood that extremely really... if they wanna grow a tail, let them have it! And if their ears want to floop around and be incredible adorable, go for it.
