I heard that they lick you when you get out of the shower cos you smell different and they want to be sure it's you - given how we use soap and perfume and lotion which all has different smells it must be quite confusing for them! They say dogs use their sense of smell way more than their sense of sight.
As for chronic licking - and holding down and licking - it can be a sign of dominance. It certainly is with Evil Wee - she holds poor DOugal down and FORCES him to accept lots of lickings - even tho he doesn't really want to.
My two are allowed to lick me when I say "kisses" then they have to stop when I say. If Dixie doesn't back down she gets pushed off my lap. They both try it on all the time tho! When I'm in a tricky yoga position or in the middle of a swiss ball workout - oh look mummy's got her head close to the ground and her arms are otherwise occupied - I'm going in for the sneaky-lick! LOL! They're such characters! |
