I don't shop there but I have taken my furkid into Target before. He just rode in the kid-part of the cart. I was actually surprised no one said anything because people around here are not friendly at all. Like a previous replier said, I just held my head up high like there was nothing at all wrong with it.
I think it depends on your area and the type of store it is... I wouldn't take him into a grocery store or anything. Just be prepared to encounter a nasty associate that might try to kick you out!
