| A while back i was thinking the same thing about my chihuahua....I thought her vulva was looking a bit swollen (she is nearly hairless....so it was easy to notice)...and she was licking ALOT!!!!
I did a 'search' on the internet and found a great site explaining the canine heat cycle....I believe it is called "estrus" or "estrace"...or something similar.
I tried to do a quick search just now but came up with very little good info.
But my chi had her first heat at 7 months and it lasted abour 2 weeks of bleeding....and was not easy to miss!!!!!
I believe the 'breeding' part of the cycle is very specific to certain days. Like the first week (or so) is not so good, but the dog will begin doing a "flagging" posture....like rear end up in the air and front legs and chest down on floor.....(kind of like being very playful)....when they are receptive and breedable. And the "breedable" days are something like the 10th day and 12th day...
But do a search on the internet to learn more.......the article I read that made sense was really good and was written by a lady who breeds small dogs (can't recall what breed).
Try to get connected with a breeder and learn as much as you can ...good luck!! |
