Well... this is something that doesn't have to be a huge issue...I WOULD take him with you to see a yorkie...let him hold one and see how it goes. If you actually do bring one home make sure you include HIM in caring for the puppy and try to get him to bond with him/her....
IF I were in your shoes I'd hold off on the spending till you actually get the puppy - then by that time he'll be used to the idea and maybe get so attached he'll want you to buy anything you want
....They have a way of growing on even the Big dog lovers....I hope you work it out cause it sounds like you really love him
