You are doing the CORRECT way of crate training. It probably isn't a pattern at this time, as far as his sleeping---unless you are one lucky mama. Their bladder muscles are not strong yet. If he cries in the middle of the night. Take him to PP, but no playing or talking. As soon as he PP's, then back to the crate. I took old throw cushions and made Maggie's crate a padded room.
