Newman's Own - they need to update their website. I know the ingredients for the adult formula have changed for the better. Now the first ingredient is Chicken, the second Chicken Meal. It hasn't been reviewed on the dog food analysis website since 2005. It received 3 stars then because they felt it did not contain enough meat but if they were to review it again it might rate higher since they have added more.
Bags labeled Best by March 3, 2007 and thereafter are menadione free. You can find this on the Dog Food Project website that warns against Menadione.
On Newman's website they state they do not use Menadione in the faqs section. I wanted to be certain because I buy this food every once in a while for Gus so I emailed them. They responded, they do not use it.
If you are unsure of some of the ingredients...
Dehydrated Lactobacillus Acidophilus Fermentation Product, Dehydrated Bacillus Subtilis Fermentation Product, Dehydrated Bifidobacterium Thermophilum Fermentation Product, Dehydrated Bifidobacterium Longum Fermentation Product, Dehydrated Enterococcus Faecium Fermentation Product
These are probiotics. Probiotics are friendly bacteria that assist in digestion, help protect against harmful bacteria and support immune health .
From there down are vitamins and minerals.
All are added after the food is cooked.
They use Bell and Evans Chicken, more than 70% of the ingredients are organic. They don't use chemical preservatives such as BHT, BHA or Ethoxyquin, artificial coloring or flavors.
Sorry this is so long but it is a decent dog food and all of the profits go to charities that help animals.
