We had a metal roof put on our log cabin last year. It is a rental, so we don't live in it, but it does look really nice.
Fom the time I was 17 until I married at 27, I lived in with my parents in a house that we built that had a metal roof. It was so wonderful. When it rained it was music -- when it hailed it sounded like a million squirrels having an acorn tossing contest
About insurance -- one major company, I believe it was State Farm
would not insure a log house with a metal roof. At the time there was not a fire station within the "magic 5 miles" and we were told that the metal roof would prevent the fire from blowing through the room and the house would burn to the ground
