Well, now you've gone and done it! TEARS all over my keyboard........
Thank you for sharing that beautiful story.
When my beloved Herb died at home in 1995, Pogo was nestled right next to him, watching his face so carefully. When Herb's heart stopped, Pogo got down from the bed and went to his favorite place on the sofa, where he always sat with Herb, and did not get down to eat or drink for three days. He went into such a depression that I had to take him to the vet for treatment.
Our other dog, a Sheltie named Lucy, stayed with Herb on the bed until the undertaker came. She tried very hard to get into the hearse when they put Herb in, then slowly followed the hearse down the long driveway with her tail dooping.* It was soooo sad. They know.
I'm sure Herb is checking the Rainbow Bridge, waiting for his two best friends.........
*Note: The undertaker, a personal friend, had just lost his beloved Sheltie at 16 years of age, and when he saw Lucy's actions, I had to get him some kleenex. We all stood there and blubbered together. |
