When Bert is in a confined room with his crate, leave the door open. Entice him to enter the crate with a toy or treat. When he enters on his own, close the door. If you force him into the crate, they will not like their crate. Don't leave him in there very long. I only use the crate at night. If I can't watch Maggie during the day, she plays in her exercise pen. Have as much human contact with Bert as possible. I got Maggie use to her crate by allowing her to fall asleep on my lap. I would then take her to her crate. When she woke up, it was outside to PP and then playtime. When she got sleepy, it was back to the crate. Holler anytime. Been there, done that.
