My Otis lifted his leg at that age. Even after he was neutered he still hikes. He has some dominant traits but is not a typical alpha. He is more likely to be a watchdog, but He allows my shih-poo to kind of rule the food bowl. His dominance is when he's outside. He has never come in contact with a cat but has still managed to develop a STRONG hatred for them. He wants to hunt and run and most of the time he will not come in when I call him. I think if we had nice weather all the time he would love to be an outside dog.(don't worry, no chance!!) He was even kind enough to teach my shih-poo to hike his leg. I use potty pads and put 2 liter bottles on them for hiking posts. It really works. My friend's male dog squats at home, but when he comes over to visit, he succombs to peer pressure and hikes his leg like my boys. It cracks her up.
