I would guess he is teething. That happened to Maddie when she was teething. They'd be up one day, down the next...one ear up, one ear down. Maddie's have also fallen a time or two for no apparent reason, but they always go back up!

You could try taping the floppy ear, or massaging it also helps. Does he have a lot of hair on his ears? If so, you could shave the tips to see if that would help.
