That's the scary part about only having one or two. They get bigger. Keep a good eye on her while she's in labor. This is her first time and may take her a while. One of those situations where you want to give her time to stretch and do it on her own, but on the other hand, not too long.
My vet said absolutely do not count spines. Just heads. She didn't explain exactly why, so I can't answer that question.
