Would anyone care to explain exactly what the "crate training" procedure is. As I understand it, you aren't to use it to imprison your dog, but you keep him in there until he goes outside or on the pad and then you allow them freedom, but for how long? Do you give them 15 minutes of freedom and then back to the crate for the next hour until they have to pee again? I can't see keeping a dog that needs some exercise and outlet for a tremendous amount of energy, as well as some time to experience the world in order to develop, in a crate for hours on end for months. To me, that's tantamount to keep a child penned up in a playpen 24/7. It impedes development. So I'd like to know exactly how it is supposed to work.
