I have a larger yorkie, she is about 8.5lbs. Her & I lived with my parents for 1 year before I got married and my mom has Maltese dogs. They all got along fine! If your maltese was the first dog in the house then she should be the alfa dog and not put up with anything from the Yorkie. Give it time they will adjust. If you are nervous just dont leave them alone together when no one is home. But I doubt a 7-10lb Yorkie will do a maltese much harm.
As for the size, I think you should be happier she is on the larger size. Sometime those "Tea-cup" (non-existent) Yorkies arent healthy and die at an early age.!!
